It’s All About the Oil

It seems that ever since the Maccabees beat the Syrian-Greeks and that little pitcher of clean oil was found in the Temple, Rabbis have been arguing about just what was the miracle. Was it the oil or the military victory?

Choosing sides has certain halachic/legal ramifications, such as can one light the candles alone? Can one light not at home? Do we light in ascending or descending order?

Designer Ken Goldman makes a clear statement with this little olive oil hanukkah— “it’s all about the oil”!

Goldman has always been atracted to Jewish ritual art of a minimalist nature, and this is about as minimal as you can get!
