London Jewish Artists’ Salon
A SPACE WHERE ARTISTS AND ART PROFESSIONALS FROM DIFFERENT DISCIPLINES CAN GET TOGETHER TO TALK ABOUT WORK, LIFE AND THE JEWISH THEMES THAT CROSS OVER AND INTO EVERYTHING WITH A GLASS OF WINE OR A CUP OF TEA. AND CAKE.

Speakers for the Salon on February 19th:

Joshua Sofaer is an artist who is centrally concerned with modes of collaboration and participation. Often with an irreverent use of humour, he plays with established forms of production, appropriating and reconfiguring the chat show, competition, lecture, or museum display. He acts as curator, producer or director of a broad r…ange of projects, including large-scale events, intimate performances, and publications. Joshua was a winner of the 2009 Bank of America CREATE Art Award, and the first Artist Fellow on the 2010/11 Clore Leadership Programme.

Orly Orbach creates visual narratives for public spaces. Her work is concerned with creating fragments of narrative and turning them into open books. As well as making prints and drawings in her studio, she makes images with communities, producing temporary and permanent polyvocal works that give stories physicality and a presence in the landscape. The creative process of making collaborative artworks becomes a space from which new narratives emerge. Orly is a winner of the Urban Dialogues Visual Artist Award.

Avielah Barclay is a certified Soferet (סופרת – female Jewish ritual scribe) & the first women to practice sofrut (creation of sacred Hebrew texts) in over 200 years. She is currently researching the foundation of a lost tradition of women practicing this craft. Soferet.com; Sofrut Nation;
